Toads calling in Stanford!

It's great news that western leopard toads have started calling in Stanford! Full moon is approaching which has been seen to trigger breeding activity in past years! The only other calling reported so far has been in Kommetjie. Watch out for movement or calling tomorrow, Tuesday, with the forecast of rain!

It's the start of toad month!!

With the growing moon and the possibility of rain on Thursday evening, toads might start their annual migration on Thursday if the rain comes, so please be prepared to drive slowly and save toads in your area on Thursday night!

As winter draws in, we humans light fires to keep warm and snuggle under thick blankets. Winter is a time of semi-hibernation for us, but for the Western Leopard Toad it is the exact opposite. As temperatures drop, toads begin to hear the call of the breeding…

Hi Suzie

Great site and I love the passion people have for these beautiful little creatures. I certainly hope to become involved in the future, if you need a pair of extra hands.

Keep up the great work

Hi Suzie
Just to let you know I have installed 2 Toad ladders into our pool and although I have found toads in the garden fortunately no casulties in the pool. Not sure if it is the ladders or they are becoming a little smarter........

All the best

Thanks Suzie, I'm hoping to learn a lot about keeping these fella's going in my pond! I'm busy relocating tadpoles from inappropriate places in my garden into my pond at the moment.

Thanks Suzie, I'm only moving them as I need to get rid of the water container where they currently are, it's an old flattened vinyl swimming pool. The other tadpoles (in the old sandpit) are being left for now for just that reason.
Thanks for sharing your thoughs on the frog, I do have leopard toads as well just don't have a nice photo of one for the profile!
