For those of you that missed the 50/50 insert on the 4th May, here's the text which went together with Mark Becker's kind contribution of Sabrina & the toads and Thalia & the Toadsaver.
Ntokozo to Cam:
Ons het laasweek Nasionale padda dag gevier, en met die opwinding nog sterk in die lug is die week se Toktokkie nogsteeds gepas.
Suzie from Noordhoek in Cape Town sent us this lovely contribution.
They noticed that the endangered Western Leopard toadlets had emerged from their breeding pond and was worried that the toadlets were drowning in swimming pools in the area. Suzie and her friend Alison Faraday went knocking on their neighbours doors to try and save them. At the last house they found and saved 50 toadlets. These poor guys were being sucked down forcefully in the swimming pool and wouldn’t have lasted much longer.
They then saved another 50 toadlets in the same pool over the next view weeks.
Ntokozo To Cam:
This event inspired Suzie to develop the Toadsaver, an easy installable devise that could prevent possible drownings of the endangered Western Leopard toad.
Thalia Jirachareonkul
This is a Western Leopard Toad and she is going to show us how to use the Toadsaver.
Suzie Jiracha:
Hopefully she is going to show us how to use a Toadsaver but simply by installing a Toadsaver in your swimming pool your toad would be able to climb out whenever she wants. And there we go. The proof is in the pudding.
Ntokozo to cam:
Die Toadsaver werk vir die Westerlike Luiperd padda omdat hulle kan loop en klim, anders as gewone paddas wat net kan spring en hop. Indien jy gewone paddas wil red sal `n rots of klip op die trap van jou swembad werk.
Suzie and Allison started a volunteer group to save the Western Leopard Toad in their area and called it Toad Nuts. Please visit their website for more info. They have lovely video clips, information and blog posts that can be useful to any toad lover.
